Painting pottery is quite different than my typical oil painting process, with different paints, surfaces, drying processes, etc. While the outcome is varied from my usual style, I certainly had fun creating my rose designs on a couple of pottery pieces for the Empty Bowls Naples auction coming up on January. 24, 2015 at Cambier Park.
For those of you who may not be aware, the “Empty Bowls Project” is an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. Their mission is to create positive and lasting change through the arts, education, and projects that build community.
The basic premise is simple:
Potters, crafters, educators, students and volunteers work with the community to create handcrafted bowls.
Local restaurants donate soup and bread to serve.
Guests are invited on the 4th Saturday of January to a simple meal of soup and bread served at Cambier Park from 11am-2pm.
In exchange for a $15 cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the ’empty bowls’ in the world.
A silent auction will be held during the event to expand on the fundraising efforts. (My two rose pieces will be auctioned off during the event.)
This event benefits The Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, an organization working to end hunger and food insecurity in SWFL.
Uniquely challenging in their own right, here are the 2 pieces I painted for the great cause.
